Road
If you are planning to drive to York, you should be aware that parking within the city is very limited, and the narrow streets are not conducive to easy navigation. The random layout of the city creates constant bottlenecks making driving through the city a tiresome business. Fortunately York is a wonderful place to walk around, with many pedestrianised streets within the city centre. If you are a day-tripper we would recommend using the excellent Park&Ride facilities. This is a spoke & hub service, from 5 terminals positioned on the main routes in to the city. Simply park your car on the edge of town and catch the bus straight in to the heart of the city. Parking in the City
Parking in the city centre is limited due to the historical layout of the city and a policy of pedestrianisation & use of Park&Ride. However, there are several car parks on the outskirts of the city centre

Disabled Parking
The UK runs a ‘Blue Badge’ scheme to provide a range of parking concessions for people with severe mobility problems. This enables holders to park close to where they need to go, including on yellow lines or in a parking place for badge holders that has a time limit. For further details about this Department of Transport scheme, refer to: www.dft.gov.uk/bluebadge
The map above shows where you can park for free in the city centre. It includes car parks and on-street bays. You should always display your badge when parking in one of these car parks or bays.
