Despite the historical nature of York, most buildings and services are accessible to disabled people. It is also a very flat city with many pedestrianised streets and ample disabled parking. Most of the buses are equipped to cater for wheelchairs, pushchairs and scooters. However, be aware that access to some of the older buildings is difficult, due to a lack of space, no elevators and uneven surfaces. In addition some of the streets are cobbled or uneven.

Disabled Parking
The UK runs a ‘Blue Badge’ scheme to provide a range of parking concessions for people with mobility problems. This enables holders to park close to where they need to go, including on yellow lines or in designated parking places for badge holders. For further details about this scheme refer to the Department of Transport Blue Badge website.
The map below shows where you can park for free in the city centre. It includes car parks and on-street bays. You should always display your badge when parking in one of these car parks or bays.

Disabled Toilets
